Linebarrels of Iron may sound like a silly name, its alternate name, Kurogane no Linebarrel, sounds a bit better. However, do not judge this story by its name. Its quite action packed, with not quite the usual lead character. His name is Kouichi, and he was a hard ass kid with real bad attitude at first. Luckily, I had five whole volumes to go through, and in the end, he turns out much better.

We start with a mystery, about an ‘apparent’ accident with a fallen satellite, which Kouichi was caught in, for which he was in a coma for half a year. However, after he woke up from his coma, he was forever changed. Before his accident, he was a weak, sickly kid, who was always bullied. Now, he was strong and tough, and now beating the crap out of other people.

However, one day after a particularly upsetting talk with one of the few real friends he still had, he was suddenly ambushed by some strange people, who later turned out not to be people after all. After a brief and intense fight, in which his old friend, Yajima, joined in to help, the duo finally managed to escape from the android monsters.

Alas, their escape was only temporary, and Kajima was ambushed from behind by one of the androids. Trapped and bleeding, Kajima heorically told Kouichi to run away, while Kajima acts as a decoy to distract them. Desperate and angry at his powerlessness, Kouichi yell out his frustration and anger.

Suddenly, a giant hand came crushing down on all the androids, and Kouichi and Kajima were saved. But the appearance of their mysterious savior also finally triggered Kouichi’s memory, so he finally remembered what actually happened three years ago…
